Central Coast’s Georgia Young Launches Unique Social Initiative

UPDATE: Georgia Young, a social work student, has just launched an innovative social initiative on the Central Coast, aimed at combating loneliness among young adults. The program, called BooksBushBullshit, combines monthly book clubs and bushwalks for those aged 20 to 45, with exciting activities like indoor rock climbing and a scheduled blood donation event in Gosford.

Young identified a significant gap in social activities appealing to her age group, realizing that existing groups were either too focused on drinking or catered to different age brackets. “I wanted to do something health-related,” she stated. Through her Instagram handle, @booksbushbullshit, Young is fostering a community that prioritizes connection and well-being.

Member for Gosford Liesl Tesch praised Young’s efforts, calling her “one of the inspirational young people doing great things on the Coast.” Tesch emphasized the importance of initiatives like Young’s in addressing community isolation, remarking, “There are people like Georgia who are getting out there and doing something about it.”

Participants have expressed profound gratitude for the initiative’s impact. Young shared a touching story about a new member from New Zealand who realized just how much she missed her friends after joining the group. Another participant, an emergency department doctor, thanked Young for helping him reconnect with nature, saying it has made a significant difference in his life.

The group is planning future bushwalks in Brisbane Water and Bouddi National Parks, creating even more opportunities for connection. Young is also seeking like-minded individuals who want to assist in organizing these activities. Interested parties can reach out via Instagram.

As the Central Coast community rallies around this initiative, Young’s vision continues to grow, proving that meaningful connections can make a real difference in combating isolation. This developing story highlights the urgent need for social interaction and community engagement among young adults today.
