Father-Son Terrorists Kill 15, Including Child, at Bondi Beach

URGENT UPDATE: In a shocking act of violence, 15 people, including a child, were killed by father-and-son terrorists at the renowned Bondi Beach in Sydney on December 10, 2023. The attackers, identified as Naveed Akram, 24, and his father Sajid Akram, 50, opened fire during a Jewish festival celebrating the first day of Hanukkah.

The incident unfolded shortly after 9:00 PM local time, sending shockwaves through the community. Witnesses reported chaos as families celebrated a joyous occasion, only to be met with gunfire. Sajid Akram was killed in a shootout with police, while Naveed remains hospitalized under police guard with critical injuries.

Authorities confirm that 42 others were injured, with at least 12 victims in critical condition. Makeshift memorials have sprung up in the beachside park, where hundreds had gathered earlier. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the attack, labeling it an “act of pure evil” and vowing to combat anti-Semitism across the nation.

“Such an assault on the Jewish community during Hanukkah, a time meant for celebration, is unconscionable,” Albanese stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to eradicate hate. The attack is being described as Australia’s deadliest anti-Semitic act in history and the worst mass shooting since the Port Arthur Massacre in 1996.

Local leaders, including NSW Premier Chris Minns, expressed their outrage, calling for a unified stand against this “cancerous” form of hate. “This day will be burned into the nation’s soul,” said Federal Opposition leader Sussan Ley, reaffirming the need for decisive action against anti-Semitism.

As the investigation unfolds, police are examining the home shared by the Akram family in Bonnyrigg, which was raided on the night of the attack. The shooters had reportedly been staying at a short-term rental in Campsie prior to the incident.

The Australian Federal Police have classified the shooting as a terrorist act, granting special powers to investigate thoroughly. Multiple officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire, with one constable in serious but stable condition.

Community members rushed to assist victims, including local shop owner Ahmed Al Ahmed, who was injured while attempting to disarm one of the attackers. Lifesavers from a nearby Christmas party also risked their lives to provide first aid amidst the chaos.

Messages of condolence have poured in from world leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who criticized Australian authorities for their handling of anti-Semitism.

As the nation mourns, the focus remains on supporting the victims and their families while ensuring justice is served. The community is urged to come together in solidarity against hate, as the impact of this tragedy continues to resonate throughout Australia.
