BREAKING: Five schools in Moorabool have been awarded more than $244,000 in state government funding for critical maintenance and bushfire preparedness. This urgent funding will empower these schools to enhance their facilities and improve safety measures ahead of the bushfire season.
Darley Primary School is set to receive a substantial $156,522 from the government’s Planned Maintenance Program. This funding will allow the school to prioritize essential repairs on classrooms and facilities, ensuring a safer learning environment for students. The announcement comes as part of a broader initiative where 24 schools across the state will share in over $13 million aimed at addressing urgent maintenance needs.
The funds will be utilized for crucial works, including fixing roofs, replacing windows, maintaining ramps, painting, resurfacing floors, and improving pathways. These enhancements are vital for the schools’ operational integrity and student safety.
In addition, the following schools will also benefit from bushfire preparedness funding: Balliang East Primary School will receive $21,269, Coimadai Primary School will get $24,194, Lal Lal Primary School will be allocated $20,137, and Trentham District Primary School will receive $22,324. Collectively, these four schools are among 330 government schools sharing in a total of $8.4 million designated for bushfire preparedness.
The Bushfire Preparedness Vegetation Program, initiated in 2018, aims to help schools undertake essential vegetation clearance around their buildings before the bushfire season. Schools listed on the Bushfire At-Risk Register (BARR) are required to implement regular vegetation management to mitigate fire risks to their communities and infrastructures.
Education Minister Ben Carroll emphasized the importance of these funds during a recent announcement. “We know how devastating bushfires are – that’s why we’re continuing to support schools to be as fire-ready as possible,” he stated. This funding not only aims to ensure that schools remain in the best possible condition but also to protect classrooms and facilities from potential bushfire threats.
As the bushfire season approaches, these funding allocations are critical for preparing schools and safeguarding students. Parents and local communities can expect to see significant improvements in school safety measures as these projects roll out.
Stay tuned for more updates on how these funds will be utilized and further developments on school safety initiatives in the region.
