UPDATE: In a nail-biting finish, Jock Goodyer triumphed in the Max’s Race at Allansford’s Premier Speedway on December 14, 2023, marking his second consecutive victory in this prestigious sprintcar event. The 24-year-old driver from Tasmania fended off a fierce challenge from Portland’s Brock Hallett, the reigning 2023 Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic champion, to secure the win.
Starting from pole position, Goodyer faced intense pressure in the closing laps of the A-Main. In a dramatic moment, he nearly lost control of his car due to misjudgment while navigating lapped traffic. “I thought I nearly lost it there at the end,” Goodyer stated. “Brock showed me his nose, and I knew I needed to get down so got down there just in time,” he explained to The Standard.
Warrnambool’s James McFadden, the current Classic and Australian champion, showcased his skill by finishing third after starting from 10th position, rounding out a thrilling podium.
Goodyer’s victory at Max’s Race is particularly significant as he joins the ranks of two-time winners of the event, alongside Warrnambool’s Jamie Veal (2015, 2016) and Albury’s Grant Anderson (2019, 2023). “We won this a few years back, so obviously it’s a pretty prestigious race,” Goodyer remarked, emphasizing the importance of the Dumesny legacy in the sport.
This win adds to Goodyer’s impressive start to the season, which includes victories at Gladstone Speedway in Queensland. “We’re just trying to learn this car, learn the tyres, everything like that, and just trying to get myself comfortable as well,” he noted. “It’s just so hard with these things, so hit and miss, but we’re definitely on a good path.”
The excitement surrounding Goodyer’s performance is palpable, as fans and fellow competitors reflect on the significance of his achievements in sprintcar racing. With the season still underway, all eyes will be on Goodyer as he continues to build momentum in what promises to be a thrilling series of races ahead.
As the sprintcar racing community celebrates Goodyer’s remarkable feat, the anticipation for future competitions grows. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for more updates as the season progresses.
