UPDATE: Muhammadiyah Australia College in Melton, Victoria, is poised for significant expansion following the allocation of $3.6 million in state government funding. Melton MP Steve McGhie announced this urgent investment, aimed at addressing the increasing demand from prospective students.
The funding will facilitate the construction of three new classrooms, alongside a modern library, conference room, and staff room. Additionally, the existing library will be repurposed into three additional classrooms to accommodate the growing student body.
This initiative is part of a broader $450 million fund dedicated to enhancing non-government schools across the state. The program not only focuses on new constructions but also prioritizes critical safety improvements, including the removal of asbestos and cladding in educational facilities.
Education Minister Ben Carroll emphasized the commitment to ensuring that every Victorian student has access to quality education close to home, irrespective of their background. “We are dedicated to supporting schools like Muhammadiyah Australia College,” Carroll stated, underscoring the initiative’s importance.
McGhie expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “We are thrilled to support Muhammadiyah Australia College in expanding its facilities to serve the next generation of students from diverse Muslim backgrounds.” He added that he looks forward to visiting the school post-completion to witness its new offerings firsthand.
This funding allocation reflects a strategic effort to distribute resources effectively, with Catholic schools receiving a minimum of 70 percent and independent schools at least 30 percent of the total funds. The government’s approach underscores a commitment to inclusivity and educational equity within the state.
As this project unfolds, local communities and prospective students are eager to see how these enhancements will shape the educational landscape in Melton. Stay tuned for more updates on the construction timeline and community engagement initiatives related to this expansion.
