URGENT UPDATE: The Riverland Rose and Garden Festival has officially launched, captivating attendees with its vibrant floral displays and community spirit this past weekend. The 2025 festival, which began on October 14, is already drawing record numbers, with highlights including the renowned Renmark Institute floral display and a packed Gala Dinner.
Mayor Ella Winnall and key local figures, including Jodie Hawkes, chair of Regional Development Australia Murraylands and Riverland, and Michelle Dominic, president of the festival committee, kicked off the festivities at the Market Fair. The event was marked by an enthusiastic crowd that showcased the region’s commitment to community and creativity.
“The opening was fantastic and overwhelmingly positive,” Dominic stated, reflecting on the event’s success. The favorable weather contributed to the overwhelming attendance at open gardens, with over 120 attendees enjoying a fundraiser at the Dominic open garden featuring a delightful afternoon tea and a fashion show.
The Gala Dinner proved to be a memorable experience, selling 140 tickets and highlighting the culinary talents showcased by the staff at the Renmark Function Centre. The evening was filled with music, decorations, and a vibrant atmosphere, making it a true community celebration.
Attendees were particularly impressed by the Renmark Institute, which featured this year’s theme, “New Beginnings,” reflecting the hard work and dedication of volunteers. This year’s festival marks a significant milestone in bringing the community together, especially following recent challenges faced by the region, including dry seasons and flooding impacts.
Riverland-based MLC and opposition spokesperson for regional South Australia, Nicola Centofanti, emphasized the festival’s importance beyond its floral displays.
“It’s about the people—the volunteers, gardeners, local businesses, and community members who pour their hearts into making it happen year after year,”
Centofanti remarked.
With less than a week left until the festival concludes on October 19, Dominic encourages both locals and visitors to engage with ongoing events and open gardens. “The Festival fosters connection and celebration, reminding us of the power of community,” she noted, highlighting the resilience of the Riverland region.
