URGENT UPDATE: A teenager has been rescued after suffering a suspected dislocated shoulder and a possible broken arm following a fall into a storm water drain in North Albury around 12:30 PM on August 5. The incident occurred on Jet Street, prompting immediate action from the Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA).
Volunteer rescuers quickly responded to the emergency, assisting paramedics to stabilize the youth before safely removing him from the drain. Regional operations manager Paul Marshall confirmed that the teenager had been trapped and unable to escape on his own, leading to the urgent call for help.
“We put a ladder down and used it like a slide,” Marshall explained, highlighting the swift and effective rescue operation. Following his extraction, the teenager was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Initial reports suggested the youth had been riding an e-bike when he fell, but Marshall clarified that this was not the case. The exact circumstances surrounding the fall remain unclear as authorities continue to investigate.
In other developments, police are also looking into a separate incident where two people narrowly escaped a suspicious fire at a home in Wodonga on Monday afternoon. This blaze raises questions as the investigation unfolds.
Additionally, a car was destroyed by fire on a Wodonga street on August 3, and a baby was among three individuals hospitalized due to a car crash in Wangaratta on the same day.
Stay tuned for more updates as these situations develop. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local authorities.
