Two Young Men Killed in Fiery Crash in Newcastle Late Saturday

URGENT UPDATE: Two young men tragically died after being trapped in their car, which erupted into flames following a violent collision with a power pole in Mayfield East, Newcastle. The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 PM on Saturday when the vehicle lost control on Maitland Rd.

Four students from Bangladesh were inside the car when it crashed. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle engulfed in flames immediately after impact. Passers-by heroically rushed to assist, managing to pull the 24-year-old driver and a 19-year-old passenger from the wreckage before emergency services arrived.

Firefighters worked quickly to free the remaining two passengers, both believed to be in their 20s. Despite their efforts, both men were transported to John Hunter Hospital with critical burns, where they later succumbed to their injuries. The driver is currently under guard in the hospital with minor injuries, while the other survivor is also receiving treatment.

Authorities from NSW Police have confirmed that all four men were students in Australia and are coordinating with the High Commission of Bangladesh for further assistance to their families. Police are urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward.

This devastating incident highlights the risks associated with road safety and the tragic loss of young lives. Community members are in shock, mourning the loss of these promising individuals. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
