UPDATE: A 15-year-old boy from Wyndham has been arrested following a dramatic police chase that began during a hoon meet on New Year’s Eve in the western suburbs of Melbourne. Authorities report that the incident unfolded around 11:50 PM on Permas Way in Truganina.
According to police, an Air Wing unit detected a blue Ford Falcon engaging in reckless behavior, including performing burnouts with passengers hanging out of the windows. When officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, the Falcon allegedly fled, driving erratically on the wrong side of the road through the suburbs of Truganina, Tarneit, Williams Landing, and Laverton.
Police deployed stop sticks on Bronzewing Street in Williams Landing, successfully bringing the chase to an end. The Air Wing unit tracked the vehicle to an address at the intersection of Whittaker Avenue and Bladin Street in Laverton, where the three occupants attempted to hide in nearby bushes before being apprehended.
The 15-year-old boy has been released but is expected to receive multiple penalty notices for traffic offenses. Meanwhile, a 26-year-old man from Manor Lakes faces a staggering 15 charges, including reckless conduct endangering life and dangerous driving while being pursued by police. A 23-year-old man, also from Manor Lakes, is charged with 10 offenses, including careless driving and driving while his license was suspended.
The blue Ford Falcon has been impounded, costing the owners approximately $999.52.
This incident highlights the ongoing issues of reckless driving and public safety, especially during celebratory events like New Year’s Eve. As investigations continue, residents are urged to report any similar reckless behavior to local authorities.
