Urgent Alert: Two Drivers Arrested for Speeding and Drugs in Griffith

URGENT UPDATE: Authorities in Griffith have arrested two drivers in separate incidents involving dangerous speeding and drug use, raising serious safety concerns for the community. These arrests occurred just days apart, with the latest developments underscoring the urgency of addressing reckless driving on local roads.

On August 22, at approximately 12:34 PM, police stopped a 48-year-old man driving a Toyota Hilux on Rifle Range Road. Officers clocked him reaching speeds of 120 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, prompting immediate action. Following a roadside check, the driver tested positive for methamphetamine, leading to his arrest and a 24-hour prohibition from driving. Police are awaiting further analysis from the New South Wales Forensic and Analytical Science Service to determine next steps.

Just two days later, on August 24, another incident unfolded when a 34-year-old man was apprehended driving a white Holden Cruze at around 8:12 AM on Kidman Way in Hanwood. His vehicle was stopped due to an expired registration, and checks revealed he had never held a valid driver’s license in Australia. Similar to the previous incident, drug testing confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in his system. He faces multiple charges, including ‘never licensed person drive vehicle on road’ and ‘drive vehicle with an illicit drug present in oral fluid.’ Additionally, he was charged with contravening an AVO (Domestic) and breaching bail conditions, leading to his refusal of bail. He is set to appear in Griffith Local Court on October 25.

These alarming incidents highlight the growing issue of impaired and reckless driving in Griffith. Local authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious driving behavior. As police continue to crack down on these offenses, the community is reminded of the serious implications of driving under the influence and exceeding speed limits.

Stay tuned for further updates on these developing stories as Griffith police continue their efforts to enhance road safety and enforce laws against dangerous driving behavior. Share this news to spread awareness and help keep our roads safe!
