UPDATE: A 29-year-old man is recovering after flipping his vehicle on the Midwestern Highway near Goolgowi earlier today, prompting urgent police response. The accident occurred approximately 85 kilometres out of Hay when the driver lost control of his gold Holden Viva, veering off the road.
Witnesses report the car left the roadway and rolled down a dirt embankment before the driver managed to regain control 250 metres later. Unfortunately, the vehicle’s front right wheel buckled upon returning to the pavement, causing it to flip and roll over. An oncoming driver, noticing a cloud of dust, rushed to assist as the driver crawled out of the wreckage.
Emergency services were alerted via Triple zero (000) after the incident, and police arrived quickly on the scene to assess the situation. The driver reportedly stated he fell asleep just before the crash. He underwent a breath test, which confirmed no alcohol in his system.
However, authorities noted that the vehicle was both unregistered and unlicensed, leading to multiple infringements issued to the driver.
In a related safety advisory, police have reported a concerning rise in thefts from unlocked vehicles, particularly around the Darlington Point area. They are urging residents to remain vigilant, lock their cars, and secure valuables at all times.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of road safety and the importance of remaining alert while driving. Stay tuned for further updates as authorities continue to monitor the situation.
