Urgent: Eight-Year-Old Stabbed at Melbourne School, Lockdown Enforced

UPDATE: An eight-year-old boy was stabbed on the grounds of Brentwood Park Primary School in Berwick, Melbourne this morning, triggering immediate lockdown protocols at two local schools. Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 9:00 AM on October 12, 2023, following reports of the shocking incident.

The young victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received prompt treatment from paramedics at the scene. A female staff member also suffered minor injuries during the incident. Both individuals are expected to recover, according to authorities.

In the wake of the stabbing, police apprehended an 11-year-old boy found nearby and conducted a thorough questioning. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital for assessment as part of the ongoing investigation.

To ensure the safety of students and staff, both Brentwood Park Primary and nearby Kambrya College were placed on lockdown. While Brentwood Park resumed normal operations shortly after the event, the school is collaborating with law enforcement and the Department of Education to address the situation.

A spokesperson from the Department of Education reported,

“We are currently working with Brentwood Park Primary School regarding an incident this morning involving a young student who behaved in a dangerous manner. The school enacted its safety procedures, and police and paramedics attended the school. We are supporting both the staff member and the student and are providing additional wellbeing supports to those who need it.”

This incident has raised significant concerns among parents and the local community, highlighting the urgent need for safety measures in schools. Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the investigation unfolds.
