UPDATE: A shocking incident on July 25, 2023, has emerged as a pregnant teenager allegedly led police on a high-speed chase with a 10-month-old baby in the car. The driver, Kirsty Lee Parker, 19, is accused of reaching speeds of 168 km/h on the Pacific Highway near Gosford, prompting urgent police action.
The chase began when police attempted to stop Parker’s Volkswagen sedan on the M1. Authorities were forced to abandon the pursuit due to safety concerns after one of Parker’s passengers climbed out of a window to film the high-speed event. Eyewitness videos captured the chaotic scene, with passengers yelling and swearing while loud music blared in the background, as the baby was seen in a car seat.
Parker reportedly crashed into another vehicle while attempting to evade police, swerving around road spikes set in the towns of Swansea and Pelican. She and her passengers were eventually apprehended after abandoning the vehicle in Windale, approximately 14 kilometers south-west of Newcastle, and 80 kilometers from where the chase began.
Authorities confirmed that Parker has been charged with multiple offenses, including driving 45 km/h over the speed limit as a learner, driving recklessly, and failing to secure passengers’ seatbelts. Four adult passengers with her were released without charge.
In court on Wednesday, Parker applied for bail, proposing conditions that included daily reporting to police. Her legal representative, Adam Ryan, revealed that a doctor confirmed Parker is 11 weeks pregnant, adding another layer of complexity to this urgent case.
As the investigation continues, this incident raises serious concerns about reckless driving behavior, particularly involving vulnerable passengers. Authorities are urging the public to report any similar incidents promptly.
