BREAKING: A runaway semi-trailer and excavator have crashed into 11 parked cars on Ryedale Road in Denistone, NSW, creating chaos and leading to a significant road closure. The incident occurred at approximately 11:35 AM on August 11, 2025, leaving firefighters astonished that no injuries were reported.
Firefighters described the scene as “an absolute miracle” given the circumstances.
“I say it’s an absolute miracle no one was injured in a crash on Ryedale Road in Denistone, just to the rear of the hospital,”
stated Superintendent Adam Dewberry of Fire & Rescue NSW. The usually busy road has been closed to public access while crews manage the aftermath of the accident.
Emergency responders arrived within minutes of the initial reports, finding that the semi-trailer had jack-knifed after hitting a gutter. The truck then careened into the front yard of a nearby home and continued its destructive path, taking out parked vehicles along the way. Meanwhile, the excavator, reportedly being unloaded from the truck at the time, also rolled down the steep incline, contributing to the extensive damage.
The impact was severe; two power poles were snapped in half, causing a blackout for local residents. Authorities swiftly shut off power to the area to ensure safety during the cleanup efforts. Superintendent Dewberry added,
“How this event occurred is still being investigated by police and Safe Work, but we understand at this stage that the excavator may have been in the process of being unloaded when the truck started to travel down this massive incline.”
As investigations continue, officials urge residents to stay clear of the area until cleanup is complete and the road is safe for travel. The incident highlights the dangers of heavy machinery operations, especially on steep gradients, and serves as a reminder of the potential consequences when safety measures are not adequately followed.
