Urgent Search Ongoing for Two Men After Car Plunges into River

UPDATE: A frantic search is currently underway for two men after their car plunged into the flooded Macdonald River near Wisemans Ferry, just north of Sydney. The incident occurred shortly before midnight on August 20, 2023, prompting emergency services to mobilize immediately.

Authorities confirm that one passenger managed to escape the vehicle as it submerged. However, the driver and a second passenger remain missing approximately 20 kilometres north of the ferry crossing. NSW Police reported that officers from the Hawkesbury Police Area Command were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the crash.

According to police, the escaped passenger, a man in his 20s, reached the riverbank and was assessed by paramedics but did not require further treatment. The search effort is being led by the NSW State Emergency Service alongside the NSW Rural Fire Service, who are tirelessly working to locate the missing individuals as the operation continues into August 21.

“Officers have been informed that two other men were in the vehicle at the time and are yet to be accounted for,”

stated a police spokesperson.

The search area has been significantly impacted by heavy rains, complicating rescue efforts. Emergency services are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. They can contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or visit https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. All information is handled confidentially.

As the situation develops, the community is left anxious, hoping for a positive outcome. The rescue operation’s progress will be closely monitored, with updates expected as more information becomes available. Stay tuned for the latest developments in this urgent search effort.
