UPDATE: Victoria’s young fast bowler Mitch Perry has signed with Lancashire for the upcoming county championship, presenting a remarkable chance to learn from England’s legendary pace bowler Jimmy Anderson. This news comes as Perry, aged 25, has been a standout performer in the Sheffield Shield, securing 22 wickets this season at an impressive average of 19.54.
Perry is set to join Lancashire in April 2024, just as the domestic season concludes in Australia. He will be teaming up with fellow Victorian and captain Marcus Harris, who has established himself in the squad with a three-season contract. This opportunity is especially significant as Perry will train under Anderson, who is poised to take over the captaincy at Old Trafford at the age of 43.
“I have heard great things from Marcus. I can’t wait to get over to Old Trafford, meet the boys, and get stuck into a big red-ball season,” Perry stated. “It’s a huge opportunity for me, and playing county cricket is something I’ve always wanted to experience.”
Lancashire’s Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton emphasized the importance of Australian fast bowlers in county cricket, expressing confidence in Perry’s potential: “Mitch comes to us highly recommended.”
In a related development, the experienced left-arm allrounder Daniel Sams has announced his move to Somerset for the 2026 T20 Blast. At 33, Sams continues to be a sought-after player in T20 leagues worldwide. He previously played for Essex and Nottinghamshire, and was the MVP of the tournament two years ago.
Somerset, the reigning T20 Blast champions, are excited about Sams joining their ranks, referring to him as “the ultimate T20 weapon.” Sams expressed his enthusiasm for the new opportunity, stating, “This is an exciting opportunity and hopefully, I can help the team retain the trophy.”
Somerset’s director of cricket, Andy Hurry, acknowledged Sams’ global success, highlighting his ability to impact games in England.
As both Perry and Sams prepare for their new chapters in English cricket, fans are eager to see how their performances will unfold in the upcoming seasons. The cricketing world is watching closely as these players step into significant roles, shaping the future of their respective teams.
