Lewis Capaldi Embraces Anxiety and Therapy in Musical Comeback

Lewis Capaldi, the acclaimed singer-songwriter known for the hit “Someone You Loved,” has spoken candidly about his ongoing battle with anxiety. The 28-year-old artist recently revealed that he no longer relies on anti-depressants and is experiencing a newfound sense of well-being. He expressed on a livestream that he feels he will always grapple with anxiety, stating, “I think I will always be an anxious person; accepting that’s always going to be there for me is a big thing.”

In a discussion about his mental health journey, Capaldi shared that he has stopped taking Sertraline, an anti-depressant medication. He described the process of discontinuing the medication as “f****** hard” but emphasized the positive impact that therapy has had on his life. “I’ve felt the best I’ve felt in a long time through therapy,” he added.

Therapy’s Transformative Role

Capaldi has acknowledged that therapy has played a pivotal role in his professional resurgence. After a challenging performance at the renowned Glastonbury Festival in 2023, where he faced difficulties due to Tourette syndrome, the singer took a break to prioritize his mental health. During the festival, he thanked the audience for their support, saying, “I was scared but you’ve really made me feel at ease.”

The singer’s commitment to therapy has been instrumental in his return to the stage. In a video chat with BetterHelp, an online therapy platform, he stated, “Therapy is the reason why I am able to be a musician again. I don’t think I’ll ever stop going to therapy after the impact it’s had on my life over the past two years.”

Advocating for Mental Health Awareness

In an effort to give back to his fans, Capaldi recently partnered with BetterHelp to provide 734,000 hours of free therapy sessions. This initiative aims to make mental health resources more accessible, especially for those who may feel hesitant about seeking help. Sara Brooks, the Chief Growth Officer of BetterHelp, praised Capaldi’s openness. “To have someone as globally recognized as Lewis Capaldi share so authentically how getting help through online therapy has transformed his life is incredibly powerful,” she stated.

By sharing his experiences, Capaldi hopes to break down the stigma surrounding therapy and mental health. His journey serves as an inspiration to many, proving that seeking help can lead to positive changes. As he continues to navigate his anxiety, Capaldi remains committed to his music and to advocating for mental health awareness.
