Countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region have refined their climate investment strategies during a series of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) Clinics. Co-organized by UN Climate Change, regional collaboration centres, and key partners, these workshops focused on identifying investment gaps and prioritizing strategies to meet national climate commitments.
The first NDC Clinic of the year occurred in May during the inaugural Climate Week 2025 in Panama. This event, in partnership with UNDP, UNEP, and the NDC Partnership, attracted 135 participants from 20 countries in the LAC region. The clinic emphasized sharing regional best practices while incorporating global perspectives to enhance local climate action.
Following this event, the second Climate Week took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in September, where two additional NDC Clinics were held. These sessions engaged 103 representatives from 53 countries, divided into Anglophone, Lusophone, and Francophone groups. Participants engaged in presentations, case studies, and discussions aimed at fostering collaboration among government officials from various sectors, including finance and climate.
Shortly thereafter, the NDC Clinic for Asia and the Pacific convened in Bangkok, Thailand, in September. This event attracted 87 representatives from over 30 governments, continuing the collaborative efforts with the same organizers and the support of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
The NDC Clinics served as a crucial platform for dialogue on investment planning and mobilization. Each event featured four thematic segments:
1. Institutional governance arrangements for enabling NDC finance
2. Prioritizing investment needs
3. Financial mechanisms and developing a bankable pipeline
4. Mapping exercise for NDC implementation
These segments allowed participants to identify key priorities and opportunities to implement strategies upon their return to their respective countries.
The final reports from each NDC Clinic are available on their respective event pages, providing insights into challenges and barriers to NDC implementation, pathways for execution, and strategies for developing implementation plans.
The strong participation in these clinics indicates a global commitment to accelerating progress in climate action. As nations refine their investment strategies and bolster institutional frameworks for NDC execution, implementing partners are also enhancing support for finance mobilization and collaboration between climate and finance ministries.
Looking ahead, this collective momentum will be further propelled at COP30, scheduled in Belém, Brazil, from November 10-21, 2025. World leaders, ministers, and stakeholders will present new national climate action plans, address finance pledges, and engage in high-level discussions aimed at accelerating NDC implementation on a broader scale.
