Sylvester Stallone Explores AI De-Ageing for Rambo Prequel

Sylvester Stallone, the iconic actor known for his role as John Rambo, revealed plans to incorporate AI de-ageing technology in a now-scrapped prequel exploring the character’s origins. At 79 years old, Stallone aimed to create a film that would delve into Rambo’s past, portraying him as a high school valedictorian before his tumultuous experiences in Vietnam.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Stallone shared his vision for the film, stating, “I wanted to do the first AI … not retroactive … but I wanted to rewrite history of the earlier Rambo.” He described a version of Rambo who was not just a soldier but a kind-hearted individual who faced unimaginable challenges during the Vietnam War. The actor expressed regret over the project’s cancellation, noting, “We procrastinated too long and they took it over.”

The original film, *First Blood*, released in 1982, introduced audiences to John Rambo, a Vietnam veteran who faces off against a hostile sheriff in a small town. The film’s success spawned several sequels, culminating in *Rambo: Last Blood* in 2019. Although Stallone’s prequel will not be made, the character will return in a new feature titled *John Rambo*, which is expected to begin principal photography in March 2026 in Thailand.

Upcoming Film Details

*John Rambo* will explore Rambo’s time with the Green Berets during the Vietnam War. The film will be directed by Jalmari Helander, known for the action film *Sisu*, with a screenplay penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Lionsgate is reportedly in discussions to distribute the film.

Stallone has also mentioned the possibility of passing the Rambo torch to actor Ryan Gosling, who has expressed admiration for the character since childhood. During an appearance on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon*, Stallone recounted a dinner conversation with Gosling, where the younger actor revealed he often dressed as Rambo for school events. Stallone remarked, “If I ever pass the baton, I’ll pass it on to him because he loves the character.”

As the film industry continues to evolve, Stallone’s interest in AI technology reflects a growing trend to enhance storytelling through digital innovations. While his prequel may not materialize, the legacy of John Rambo remains strong, with new stories waiting to be told.
