Authorities in New Mexico have issued an arrest warrant for actor and director Timothy Busfield, known for his roles in acclaimed television series and films. The warrant stems from allegations of child sex abuse, following a complaint filed by an investigator with the Albuquerque Police Department.
The criminal complaint outlines disturbing accounts from a child who reported that Busfield engaged in inappropriate touching during the production of the TV series The Cleaning Lady, which Busfield both directed and starred in. The child alleges that the first incident occurred when he was seven years old and involved multiple instances of inappropriate contact. The complaint indicates that there were additional incidents when the child was eight, leading to a total of five or six reported occurrences during that period.
According to the complaint, the child’s mother notified Child Protective Services about the alleged abuse, which reportedly took place between late 2022 and the second half of 2024. The child, identified only by initials, has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety, which has made him apprehensive about coming forward due to fear of potential repercussions from Busfield, who held a position of authority on set.
The investigation commenced in November 2024, following a report from a doctor at the University of New Mexico Hospital. The complaint indicates that Busfield faces two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor, as confirmed by a judge’s signed warrant.
Busfield is widely recognized for his performances in notable productions, including The West Wing, Field of Dreams, and Thirtysomething, for which he won an Emmy Award in 1991. The allegations against him have raised significant concern within the entertainment industry.
The series The Cleaning Lady, which aired for four seasons on Fox and concluded in 2025, featured Elodie Yung as a Cambodian doctor embroiled in organized crime. The production was under the banner of Warner Bros, which reportedly conducted its own investigation into the allegations but was unable to substantiate the claims.
As of now, representatives for Busfield, including his lawyer and agent, have not responded to requests for comments. Additionally, Melissa Gilbert, Busfield’s spouse, has not issued a statement through her publicist regarding the allegations.
