Join Dr. Sarah Pye in Saving Sun Bears at Environment Forum

Dr. Sarah Pye, an acclaimed author and passionate advocate for wildlife conservation, is set to lead a compelling forum on the plight of sun bears on November 14, 2023. This event, hosted at the Noosa Parks Association Environment Centre in Noosaville, Australia, aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by these endangered creatures and the vital role of the tropical rainforest in their survival.

The initiative stems from Pye’s collaboration with Malaysian ecologist Dr. Wong Siew Te, whom she met in 2012. Their partnership began when Pye inquired about how she could contribute to rainforest conservation. Dr. Wong’s response, “do what you do best,” inspired her to pursue a Doctor of Creative Arts degree and pen his biography, titled Saving Sun Bears.

At the forum, attendees will experience a dynamic multimedia presentation that highlights the urgent environmental issues affecting sun bears, including poaching, habitat loss, and the illegal pet trade. Pye’s presentation will not only showcase the struggles of the sun bear species but also spotlight Dr. Wong’s efforts to combat these threats and promote conservation.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn practical steps they can take to help protect these animals and their habitats. Pye, who has authored a series of middle-grade children’s books featuring wildlife, will also have her latest book, Curious Kai asks Why, available for purchase. This work introduces young readers to the world of conservation through relatable wildlife heroes.

The Friday Environment Forum will commence at 10:30 AM, with morning tea served from 10:00 AM to 10:25 AM. Entry costs $5 AUD, payable by ‘tap & go’ at the door, which includes refreshments. For those interested in birdwatching, a guided bird observation session will take place in the car park at 8:30 AM.

Everyone is invited to engage in this important discussion about environmental stewardship and the future of sun bears. For additional information about the event, please refer to the Friday Environment Forum page on the Noosa Parks Association website.
