The Allan Labor Government is initiating significant upgrades along the Hamilton Highway as part of a broader $976 million road maintenance program. Rehabilitation works have commenced on approximately 3 kilometres of the Hamilton Highway in Berrybank, specifically between Foxhow Road and Doyles Road. The project aims to fully rebuild the road, enhancing travel conditions and ensuring its durability for years to come.
Investment in Infrastructure Improvements
Further enhancements are planned for the Moyne Shire, which includes two separate rehabilitation projects on the Princes Highway West at Port Fairy and Panmure. This year’s maintenance program targets high-traffic areas and key freight routes, focusing on roads that connect communities in the southwest. An additional major rehabilitation project is set to begin soon on over 3.5 kilometres of the Hamilton Highway at Darlington.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne emphasized the importance of these upgrades, stating, “Whether it’s travelling to school, work or taking produce to market, it’s vital we have a reliable and efficient road network. That’s why we are making record investments to deliver smoother journeys.”
The ongoing upgrades are part of a comprehensive plan that seeks to improve regional roads across the state. Horne added, “We’re investing in maintaining our regional roads across the state, including delivering these upgrades on the Hamilton Highway.”
Supporting Local Communities and Industries
Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora also highlighted the significance of the project, noting, “These crucial works will ensure we can continue to maintain this key freight and farming route and get locals where they need to go.”
With the backing of a historic investment of $976 million, crews are actively engaged in delivering numerous maintenance projects across Victoria. These efforts aim not only to improve road quality but also to support the local economy by enhancing access for businesses and residents alike.
