UPDATE: A 21-year-old Taylors Lakes man has been charged after a dramatic police pursuit on the Calder Freeway late Sunday night, November 30, 2023. Authorities report that the vehicle was clocked at a staggering 165 km/h around 10:25 PM before escalating speeds reached 200 km/h.
Police observed the BMW displaying cloned plates, prompting a swift response. The vehicle’s reckless driving led to a broadcast request for the Air Wing, which tracked the car as it sped along the Melton Highway. Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, but it allegedly continued to evade capture, driving on the wrong side of the road.
The chase culminated when the BMW pulled into a property on Apollo Road in Taylors Lakes, where police moved in to arrest the driver. He was taken into custody for questioning, with the BMW impounded at a cost of $999.52.
The man faces multiple serious charges, including dangerous driving while pursued by police, driving at a dangerous speed, failing to stop on police direction, and drug driving. He has been bailed and is scheduled to appear at the Sunshine Magistrates Court on March 31, 2024.
