URGENT UPDATE: Access Health and Community (AccessHC) today kicks off its pivotal initiative for the 16 Days of Activism, running from November 25 to December 10. This global campaign is critical for raising awareness and mobilizing action to end gender-based violence and inequality, urging communities to challenge harmful stereotypes.
Recent statistics underscore the urgency of this movement: in Australia, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 14 men have faced violence from an intimate partner since the age of 15. The time for action is now, as violence often originates from disrespect and inequality.
AccessHC, in collaboration with the Mt Evelyn Men’s Shed, introduces the initiative titled United We Grow. This project symbolizes the nurturing of conversations essential for fostering respect among families, friends, and communities. “Meaningful change takes time, trust, and the right environment,” said Megan McInerney, senior health promotion officer at AccessHC.
Community members are encouraged to visit the Unite Trees displayed at locations including The Belgrave Hub, Lilydale Library, and Mt Evelyn Community House from November 20 to December 15. Participants can attach leaves to these trees, sharing personal reflections on what respect, unity, or kindness means to them. “We invite all members of the community to engage in this interactive display of storytelling and connection,” McInerney added.
For those unable to attend in person, AccessHC has established an online platform where individuals can share their thoughts. The link is accessible via their website at accesshc.org.au by searching for ‘16 Days of Activism.’
This campaign is proudly supported by a grant from the Yarra Ranges Council, emphasizing the collaborative efforts required to combat gender violence. As the campaign unfolds, community engagement is vital—AccessHC aims to evolve these trees into vibrant symbols of community unity and resilience.
Join AccessHC in this urgent call to action during the 16 Days of Activism. Together, we can create a safer, more equitable society. For more information, visit accesshc.org.au or contact [email protected].
United, we are stronger. Share this message to amplify the movement!
