Ausgrid Approves V2Grid’s Game-Changing Numbat EV Charger

UPDATE: Ausgrid has officially approved the deployment of V2Grid Australia’s revolutionary 7kW Numbat bidirectional EV charger. This urgent development means electric vehicle (EV) owners in New South Wales can soon connect their cars to the grid for vehicle-to-grid operations, paving the way for significant savings on energy bills and enhanced grid stability.

The Numbat charger, designed as a versatile wallbox, allows EVs not only to charge but also to discharge power back to homes or the grid. This dual functionality marks a major milestone for V2Grid Australia, a company founded by electricians Matthew Downie and James Murray, who are committed to integrating EVs into the broader energy solution.

As the adoption of electric vehicles surges across Australia, the Numbat is set to become a key player in the transition to sustainable energy. “The ability to access both vehicle-to-grid and vehicle-to-home technology is a real game changer for those looking to maximize their PHEV or EV usage,” stated the company’s representatives. “We anticipate significant interest based on initial feedback and pre-orders.”

KEY FACT: The Numbat is currently the only charger supporting both CHAdeMO and CCS2 standards, making it compatible with popular models like the Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

This cutting-edge charger is built to Australian standards, ensuring reliability in local conditions. It enables seamless charging and discharging, transforming an EV battery into a mobile energy storage unit that balances power between the vehicle, home appliances, and the grid. This functionality helps prevent overloads and optimizes efficiency.

Moreover, the Numbat can integrate with solar panels, allowing users to store excess renewable energy in their EV battery, thus maximizing self-consumption. A dedicated app provides users with real-time monitoring and control over their energy usage, enabling them to schedule charging and discharging times to lower costs.

Available immediately for order across Australia, the Numbat is priced starting at approximately A$10,000 (excluding GST). Installation costs begin at A$2,500, varying based on individual home electrical setups.

For those eager to begin selling power back to the grid, V2Grid recommends checking compatibility with specific EV models. The company is also developing higher power versions, such as a 22kW model, aimed at expanding options for commercial use and fleets.

For more information and to discuss suitability, interested parties are encouraged to contact V2Grid directly or visit their website.

This groundbreaking approval from Ausgrid represents a significant leap forward in the realm of renewable energy and EV integration, making it an exciting time for EV owners in Australia.
