Cyclist Fights for Life After Hit-and-Run in Coburg

URGENT UPDATE: A cyclist is in critical condition following a hit-and-run incident in Coburg on Sunday night. The collision occurred at approximately 6:20 PM on Moreland Road, near Murdock Street, when an unidentified cyclist was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene without offering assistance.

Authorities report the cyclist sustained life-threatening injuries and was immediately transported to the hospital. The Major Collision Investigation Unit is now actively investigating this serious incident, emphasizing the need for community assistance.

Detectives believe the vehicle involved is likely a light-colored European model, either white or silver, and is a small to mid-sized SUV. Investigators noted that the vehicle may have sustained visible damage to both its front and passenger side due to the impact.

This incident marks the second significant collision on Moreland Road in just three months. In mid-May, a male skateboarder tragically lost his life after being struck by a car near Gordon Street, raising concerns over road safety in the area.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the hit-and-run or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward. Individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.

As this story develops, the community is reminded of the critical importance of road safety and the responsibility of drivers to stop and assist when accidents occur. The urgent plea from authorities reflects the gravity of this situation and the need for swift action to ensure justice for the injured cyclist.

Stay tuned for more updates as the investigation unfolds.
