UPDATE: Melton’s emergency service volunteers are set to receive a significant boost in support with the announcement of new funding aimed at enhancing community safety. On November 27, 2023, Vicki Ward, Minister for Emergency Services, and Steve McGhie, Melton MP, revealed the recipients of this year’s Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP) grants.
This funding, totaling over $250,000, will provide essential resources to various emergency service organizations, including the Country Fire Authority (CFA), Victoria State Emergency Services (VICSES), and Life Saving Victoria. Specifically, Melton SES is set to receive a new Ford Ranger to enhance their operational capacity, while Melton South CFA will benefit from facility upgrades.
“This investment will make a real difference here in Melton,” stated McGhie. “Delivering upgraded facilities, modern equipment, and new vehicles allows our volunteers to respond quickly and effectively during emergencies.”
The VESEP grants are designed to support volunteer groups in acquiring vital equipment or improving facilities, ensuring they are better equipped to handle crises. More than 40 vehicles and upgrades to 15 facilities across the state are included in this year’s funding, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening emergency services.
The urgency of this funding cannot be overstated. As communities face increasing challenges from natural disasters and emergencies, having well-equipped and prepared volunteer services is crucial for public safety. The VESEP program, which allows volunteer groups to apply for grants up to $250,000, plays a vital role in ensuring that these local heroes can do their jobs effectively.
As Melton’s emergency services gear up for a new era of preparedness, residents can expect improved response times and enhanced safety measures during critical situations. Stay tuned for further updates on how these developments will impact the community.
