UPDATE: Perth Scorchers star Finn Allen is thrilled to team up with Australian T20 captain Mitch Marsh as they prepare to kick off their Big Bash League season against the Sydney Sixers this Sunday night at Optus Stadium. Allen, who arrived in Perth on Monday afternoon, is eager to help propel the Scorchers back into the finals after a mixed first season.
The excitement around the duo is palpable. Allen, who scored 181 runs in ten innings last summer with a top score of 68, believes their partnership at the top of the order could be a game-changer. “He’s an exciting player and captain of the Australian team. I’m looking forward to getting out there,” Allen said in an interview with The West Australian.
Both players are coming off unique circumstances. Marsh, who has only appeared in one BBL match for the Scorchers in the past three years, aims to make a significant impact this season. His last outing was a short-lived appearance against the Melbourne Renegades in January, where he was dismissed for a golden duck after just one ball.
With Josh Inglis currently in the Test side, competition for the wicketkeeping role early in the season is heating up. Allen revealed that he and returning cult hero Laurie Evans are in a tight race for the position. “It’ll be me or Laurie, so we’ll see how that goes,” he stated.
After reflecting on his first year, Allen is ready to capitalize on valuable lessons learned. “I had a tough start, but I believe my game has progressed significantly. I’m looking forward to making a mark this season,” he added.
As the countdown to the opener begins, fans are buzzing with anticipation to see how Allen and Marsh will combine their explosive styles. With the Scorchers looking to reclaim their dominance in the league, this partnership could prove vital in achieving their goals.
