URGENT UPDATE: Whittlesea council is calling on local artists to submit their work for the highly anticipated 2026 art exhibition, themed ‘BELONG’. This announcement comes as part of the council’s effort to celebrate community connection through creativity. Mayor Lawrie Cox emphasized the importance of belonging in fostering community spirit.
“Creativity brings people together,” Mayor Cox stated, urging all local artists to share their unique stories. The exhibition will take place at the Plenty Ranges Art and Convention Centre in May 2026, providing a platform for artists to showcase their work and explore the theme of belonging in meaningful ways.
Artists are invited to submit their expressions of interest by 5pm on Monday, March 16, 2026. The application process is open to creators of all mediums, ensuring inclusivity in the artistic community. “I look forward to seeing the diverse and meaningful ways our artists explore the theme of Belong,” Cr Cox remarked.
Prominent local artist and 2025 Art Award recipient Ildiko Kormanyos echoed the mayor’s sentiments, encouraging participation from all. “I love it because anyone can be involved,” she said, reinforcing the exhibition’s role in empowering artists of all backgrounds.
