UPDATE: Marine Rescue NSW has just announced the election of Keith Smith as the new Regional Director for the Northern Rivers, following an unopposed vote during the Annual General Meeting held in Cronulla last Saturday. This leadership shift comes after Darcy Henriksen stepped down from the role, marking the end of his six-year tenure characterized by commitment and professionalism.
Marine Rescue NSW Chair, Nola Watson, praised Henriksen’s dedication, noting his 17 years of service at Marine Rescue Point Danger in the Tweed Shire. “His genuine care for fellow volunteers was evident,” Watson stated.
Keith Smith, who has been involved in search and rescue since the early 1990s and joined Marine Rescue Point Danger in 2019, brings a wealth of experience to the role. With over 30 years of combined maritime and corporate leadership, including senior executive positions in transport and logistics, Smith is poised to elevate the organization.
“I’m honored to represent the dedicated volunteers of the Northern Rivers,” Smith said, emphasizing his commitment to supporting their crucial work in saving lives on the water. His leadership is expected to inspire and galvanize the volunteers who rely on his extensive background.
As the region faces ongoing challenges, the transition in leadership is a timely reminder of the importance of community engagement and volunteerism. Marine Rescue Northern Rivers plays a vital role in ensuring safety on local waterways, and Smith’s vision and expertise will be critical in enhancing these efforts.
This new chapter for Marine Rescue NSW Northern Rivers is not just about leadership; it’s about strengthening a community dedicated to service and safety. The organization invites the public to support their initiatives and stay engaged with the life-saving work being done.
