South East Man Overcomes Challenges, Lands Dream Job Now!

UPDATE: A remarkable story of resilience is unfolding in Dandenong, where 35-year-old Camilo has secured his dream job at Wintringham, a not-for-profit welfare organization dedicated to helping vulnerable elderly individuals. This breakthrough comes as recent statistics reveal that less than 50 percent of Australians with profound disabilities are employed.

Just announced today, Camilo’s journey reflects the transformative impact of organizations like Wallara, which has played a crucial role in empowering him to navigate the job market confidently. His father, Sergio, initially feared that Camilo could be taken advantage of. However, with the right support, he is now thriving across four different work environments, showcasing his talents and gaining invaluable skills.

Camilo’s role at Wintringham involves engaging with residents, where he expresses joy in making coffees, managing the morning tea cart, and helping with laundry duties. “I like doing different jobs — it makes the week fun. And I’ve learned I’m good at more things than I thought!” he shared enthusiastically.

This collaboration has not only benefited Camilo but has also enriched Wintringham’s team and residents. Bernadette Eddelbuttel from Wintringham stated, “Having him on the team is good for everyone as it brings more diversity and certainly more happiness to our team.” Camilo’s vibrant personality and dedication have made him a beloved member of the community.

Wallara’s commitment to creating inclusive employment pathways is crucial, especially as Australia grapples with the challenges of disability employment. Carolyn Bloch, Open Employment Advisor at Wallara, emphasized, “Wintringham needed someone exactly like Camilo—personable, kind, friendly, inclusive, and focused on his work. He was the perfect match.”

As this story develops, Camilo’s success serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for many, illustrating that with the right support, individuals with disabilities can achieve their dreams and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

For more updates on Camilo’s journey and others like him, stay tuned as this inspiring narrative continues to unfold.
