Tarneit Resident Urges Council for Increased CCTV to Combat Crime

BREAKING: A local resident from Tarneit is urgently calling on the Wyndham City Council to implement more CCTV cameras on residential streets to combat rising crime rates. Venkat Ram Upparlapalle stated that enhanced surveillance could deter incidents of violent crime and reckless behavior.

Upparlapalle’s plea comes as community concerns grow over issues like reckless driving, illegal dumping, car vandalism, and theft. “When you see these stories and hear about it, you get the feeling that you are not in a safe place,” he expressed, emphasizing the need for immediate action.

The urgency of the situation is palpable as residents report escalating fears. “The more frequently these incidents occur, the more people will choose to leave,” he warned. “We definitely need more surveillance to help rebuild community confidence.”

Upparlapalle believes that installing CCTV would not only aid in catching criminals but also reassure the local populace. “It’s not just about catching those who commit crimes; it’s about restoring faith in community safety,” he added. He advocates for strategically placed cameras to monitor dangerous driving and enforce speed limits. “Once people see a ticket in the mail for speeding, they may rethink their behavior,” he said, predicting a quick change in driving habits.

In response to the call for more surveillance, a spokesperson for Wyndham City stated, “Council does not routinely install CCTV on residential streets as this raises complex issues around privacy, surveillance, and jurisdiction.” This statement has only intensified the community’s calls for action.

As discussions unfold, the pressure mounts on the council to address these pressing concerns for the safety of Tarneit residents. Community members are eagerly awaiting any movement from local officials, as the need for effective crime deterrents becomes increasingly critical.

Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts and experiences as this situation develops, highlighting the urgency for a solution in Tarneit.
