Urgent: Off-Duty Officer Injured in Arrest After Hit-and-Run

BREAKING NEWS: A dramatic incident unfolded today in the Blue Mountains, where an off-duty police officer was injured while attempting to arrest a man following a series of hit-and-run crashes. The event occurred at approximately 10:40 AM on the Great Western Highway near Hazelbrook.

Emergency services were dispatched after reports of a collision involving a Hyundai and a Honda SUV. Witnesses stated that the driver of the Hyundai fled the scene immediately after the crash, prompting police to launch a pursuit.

Just moments later, authorities received another call regarding a collision involving the same Hyundai SUV and a BMW SUV near Glenbrook. The driver of the Hyundai attempted to escape on foot, but was quickly apprehended by the off-duty officer, who intervened in the situation.

During the arrest, the 29-year-old suspect resisted and allegedly bit the officer on the hand, causing injuries that required immediate medical attention. The officer was subsequently treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to Nepean Hospital under police guard for further evaluation.

The suspect was also taken into custody and is now facing multiple charges, including assault on a police officer. Police inquiries are ongoing, and they urge anyone with information regarding these incidents to come forward.

This incident highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty, even during off-duty hours. The community is rallying in support of the injured officer as investigations continue.
