Urgent: Over 40 Missing in Nigeria Boat Capsize Near Sokoto

BREAKING: More than 40 people are missing following a tragic boat accident in Nigeria as it capsized while transporting passengers to the bustling Goronyo Market in Sokoto State. The incident occurred earlier today, with reports confirming that the boat was carrying 50 individuals when it overturned.

Officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have confirmed that 10 survivors have been rescued so far. NEMA head, Zubaidar Umar, stated via a post on social media platform X that emergency teams are currently collaborating with local authorities to conduct a thorough search and rescue operation.

This devastating event follows a similar tragedy in Niger State just three weeks ago, where at least 13 individuals lost their lives and several others were reported missing after a boat carrying around 100 passengers capsized.

The ongoing search efforts are critical as families anxiously await news about their loved ones. The situation highlights the urgent need for improved safety measures in water transport, particularly in regions prone to such accidents.

Authorities are calling for immediate support and resources to aid in the rescue. As the situation develops, local officials are urging the public to stay informed through official channels.
