The competition has officially entered its second round, and the intensity is palpable as 24 teams battle for supremacy across four divisions. League registrar Dean Bryden confirmed the league is experiencing unprecedented growth. “The standard of the competition is up there with the best in the state,” he stated, emphasizing the influx of talent with the ability to feature up to four guest players in the top division.
In a nail-biting game, Bryden’s Altona Sports faced off against defending champions Tarneit Central. Both teams scored 163 runs in their innings, leading to an exhilarating super over. Altona’s captain, Scott Edwards, showcased his prowess by scoring 20 not out in the super over, sealing the victory for Altona Sports. This marks a significant milestone, as Tarneit Central had eliminated them from the competition last year.
Edwards, who also scored 60 runs in the regular match, was pivotal in ensuring his team pushed the game to the super over. “We knew we had Scott for the super over, so it was just push it out to the last ball and push it to a super over,” Bryden remarked.
Meanwhile, in another electrifying match, Glen Orden dominated Truganina United, posting an impressive 3-262 in their innings. Brar’s explosive innings included an incredible 16 sixes and 9 fours, leading his team to their second consecutive victory. Truganina could only manage 9-104 in response, with bowler Ravikumar Tailor taking 5 wickets for just 10 runs.
In the third match of the night, Williams Landing secured a comfortable win over Manor Lakes with a score of 3-215. Harneet Singh was the star, scoring 122 runs off 51 balls, while Manor Lakes finished with 9-154.
