Baylor College of Medicine and Hess Toy Truck have unveiled their latest initiative to engage students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The new educational guide, titled Ready, Set, STEM!, targets students from kindergarten through eighth grade and focuses on the theme of racing using the 2025 Hess Stock Car Racers.
This guide, created by the Huffington Department of Education, Innovation and Technology’s Center for Educational Outreach at Baylor, includes eight hands-on activities. Students will have the opportunity to explore concepts such as potential and kinetic energy, aerodynamics, gravity, and force through engaging tasks like model testing and ramp design. The guide is available free of charge for families and educators via the BioEd online site.
“For a decade, our collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine has helped students nationwide experience the excitement of STEM in a way that is both memorable and fun,” stated Justin Mayer, general manager of Hess Toy Truck. He emphasized the importance of sparking curiosity and creativity among young learners, highlighting how these activities inspire future innovators and changemakers.
Over the past ten years, the partnership between Baylor and Hess has produced more than 70 lessons that have been utilized in classrooms and at home. Previous editions of the guide have covered various themes, including rescue vehicles, police cars, recreational vehicles, and aircraft. This continuous collaboration reflects a commitment to making STEM education accessible and enjoyable for students.
“Our collaboration with Hess Toy Truck brings the wonders of engineering, physical science, and technology to life for students,” said Dr. Nancy Moreno, chair of the Huffington Department of Education, Innovation and Technology and director of the Center for Educational Outreach. The excitement generated by these educational tools aims to foster a lifelong interest in STEM fields among young learners.
The Ready, Set, STEM! guide is yet another step in the ongoing efforts to enhance STEM education and provide students with practical experiences that complement their classroom learning. As the world increasingly relies on scientific and technological advancements, initiatives like this are essential in preparing future generations for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
