UPDATE: Year 6 student Annabelle Arkit showcased her talent as a featured performer at the Schools Spectacular in Sydney, following her impressive accomplishments at the recent Dance World Cup in Prague. Just days after securing the title of runner-up World Champion in acrobatics and placing fourth in jazz, Annabelle took the stage at the Qudos Bank Arena, performing to the Beatles classic “Yesterday.”
The Schools Spectacular, held on November 28-29, 2025, is renowned as the world’s largest amateur variety show, featuring over 5,500 students from nearly 400 schools across New South Wales. Annabelle expressed her excitement about the event, stating, “It was absolutely incredible to meet so many other dancers and feel the energy of the audience.”
Despite her accolades, Annabelle emphasized the joy of performance over competition. “Although I felt some pressure, I realized it was more about enjoying the moment and sharing it with friends,” she shared with the Armidale Express.
In addition to her dance pursuits, Annabelle is dedicated to helping others. She runs a dance group called Revelations, aimed at providing opportunities for girls who cannot afford dance classes, including those in foster care. “We have girls from different schools in Armidale, and it’s rewarding to see them dance,” she said.
Annabelle’s passion for dance is evident in her diverse repertoire, which includes contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, and acrobatics. Looking ahead, she is eager to return to the Schools Spectacular next year as she transitions into high school, where she hopes to join the dance group. “One day, I would love to perform on Broadway or with the Australian Ballet,” she added.
This year’s event drew an enthusiastic crowd, showcasing the talents of young performers and creating lasting memories. Annabelle’s journey from a talented student to a standout performer continues to inspire her peers and the community.
