UPDATE: Leura Public School’s P&C association has launched an urgent fundraising initiative to upgrade the school’s outdated library. The goal is to raise $50,000 by the end of 2025, with only $17,000 currently secured. This refurbishment aims to modernize a critical space for students, addressing the pressing need for new technology, furniture, books, and flooring.
P&C president Rebecca Selkirk emphasized the project’s importance, stating, “Modernizing a space as crucial as the library is something our children greatly need.” The current facilities are in desperate need of an upgrade to better serve the educational needs of students.
To help reach their goal, the P&C is hosting a series of engaging events. The first, a book nerd trivia night, is set for Saturday, August 23, at Scenic World. This over-18 event offers tickets at $10 per person or $100 for a table, which includes complimentary pizza donated by Scenic World.
Additionally, mark your calendars for the third annual under the stars movie night on Saturday, September 20. Sponsored by Crunchyroll and Bendigo Bank, the event will feature a screening of the beloved film My Neighbour Totoro projected onto the town’s water supply tank. Tickets are available for $10 per person, with children under two admitted for free.
The P&C is also offering local businesses a chance to advertise on the school’s front fence as part of their fundraising efforts. For more details and to purchase tickets, visit the P&C’s website at leurapandc.weebly.com.
With the library upgrade poised to profoundly impact students’ learning experiences, the community is encouraged to rally together and support these initiatives. Every contribution counts towards creating a modern educational environment that caters to the needs of today’s learners.
