On December 6, 2023, the Sun Theatre in Yarraville will host a special event celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Western Bulldogs in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and Australian Football League (AFL). This unique day will feature a series of film screenings, providing fans with an in-depth look at the club’s rich history and cultural significance.
The event will kick off with a screening of the influential 1997 documentary, Year of the Dog. This film captures the essence of the Bulldogs community, highlighting their passion, loyalty, and the challenges the club faced as it transitioned towards the new century. Following this classic, the premiere of the locally produced documentary, Dogma, will offer an intimate perspective on the club, showcasing the voices of passionate fans and filmmakers from the western suburbs.
Panel Discussion and Book Launch
In addition to the film screenings, attendees can look forward to a panel discussion and book launch. Special guests, including Shaz and Carlos, who are featured in Dogma, will join the conversation. The publishers of Bulldogs Through and Through, the club’s official commemorative book celebrating its centenary, will also be present. The panel will be moderated by Laura Spurway from 3AW, ensuring an engaging and informative discussion.
The day will conclude with another film, The Outsiders, which chronicles the Bulldogs’ remarkable journey to the 2016 AFL Premiership. This powerful documentary showcases the resilience and triumph of the team. Bulldog legend Bob Murphy, who was instrumental in the club’s victory, will participate in a panel discussion to wrap up the event.
