The Sunshine Coast’s beloved classical music event returns for its fourth year, bringing the Summer Concerts 2026 – Viva la Cello! to Eudlo Hall from January 16 to 18, 2026. This series promises three intimate concerts that highlight the cello’s expressive power and versatility, featuring a mix of renowned cellists and emerging talent.
Curated by cellist and artistic director Louise King, the concert series offers audiences a unique opportunity to enjoy a diverse range of cello-centered programming in a warm and welcoming village atmosphere. Each performance aims to uplift and inspire, making it a must-attend event for both locals and visitors.
Concert Highlights and Programming
The weekend features an array of performances, starting with “Folk and Originals,” which will include traditional reels, contemporary Americana bluegrass pieces, and a special headline set by the popular group Those Folk. This vibrant blend of genres sets the tone for a weekend filled with joyous music.
Another exciting segment, “Baroque and Tango,” showcases elegant Baroque compositions alongside the passionate rhythms of Piazzolla, De Falla, and classic tango pieces. This fusion highlights the cello’s adaptability, bridging different musical styles and traditions.
The series culminates in “Classical Cellissimo!” when international cellists György Déri and Rachel Johnston join King for a thrilling finale. This performance will feature the Retreat Cello Choir, presenting a varied program that includes a world premiere, further emphasizing the concert series’ commitment to innovation and creativity.
Supporting Emerging Artists
One of the standout features of the Summer Concerts is its dedication to showcasing emerging Australian musicians. The event provides invaluable performance pathways for advanced young cellists and developing artists.
Louise King expressed her enthusiasm for the series, stating, “This is Australia’s only summer concert series dedicated entirely to the cello, and it’s a joyful celebration of sound and community. We bring world-class artists into a small hall, and the energy is electric. Eudlo becomes cello utopia for one weekend.”
She further noted the impact of these performances, saying, “Audiences tell us every year that they can’t believe concerts of this calibre happen in a tiny hinterland hall – world-class music, up close, and unforgettable. There is nothing else in Australia quite like this: a whole weekend centred on the cello, community, and creative collaboration.”
The Summer Concerts aim to connect both performers and audiences, creating an environment where live music can be experienced deeply. King added, “People don’t just listen; they feel part of something.”
The event serves as a cultural highlight of the summer for music enthusiasts, promising to deliver memorable experiences that resonate beyond the performances themselves. Tickets can be purchased online through the event’s official site at collections.humanitix.com/summer-concerts-2026.
With its rich programming and commitment to community engagement, the Summer Concerts 2026 – Viva la Cello! is poised to enchant music lovers this January.
