In a candid revelation, Gwyneth Paltrow shared her children’s reactions to her on-screen kiss with Timothée Chalamet in the upcoming film Marty Supreme. The scene, filmed in Central Park, portrays the two actors as love interests in a narrative based on table tennis champion Marty Reisman. Paltrow’s daughter, Apple Martin, 21, found the moment “bad-a**,” while her son, Moses Martin, 19, expressed his discomfort, saying, “Oh, my God, Mom. This is too much.”
Paltrow discussed the filming experience during an interview with the US television program Extra. While describing the scene, she noted the challenge of focusing amidst the presence of numerous paparazzi. The actress stated, “When you shoot in Central Park, there’s so many paparazzi around. You’re just trying to focus on what you’re doing.” She emphasized the need to concentrate despite the distractions, saying, “I didn’t think about much, but like, how can I just focus on this?”
About the Film and Its Context
Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie, is set against the backdrop of the 1950s, chronicling Reisman’s pursuit of table tennis greatness. The film highlights his determination to become a champion in the sport. Paltrow was drawn to the project not only for its compelling story but also because it allowed her to work near her children, who were in the area for college. She explained, “I hadn’t really caught the acting bug back again, but Josh Safdie is so brilliant… it also dovetailed at a time in my life when all the kids went to college and I had an empty nest.”
The actress added that the opportunity felt serendipitous, leading her to rediscover her passion for acting. “I thought, ‘Gosh, maybe, maybe this would be a fun or interesting thing to go be in New York and be near all the kids and do this.’ So, it wasn’t until I was on set that I felt the acting bug bite me again,” she said.
Release and Reception
Marty Supreme is scheduled for release on December 26, 2023. Paltrow expressed her enthusiasm about participating in the film, stating, “I’m so glad I did the film because I had so much fun doing it.” As the premiere date approaches, anticipation builds for this unique blend of sports drama and personal storytelling, showcasing not only the challenges of a rising athlete but also the dynamics of family relationships in the entertainment industry.
