Santa Claus made a special appearance, eagerly listening to children’s Christmas wishes while a DJ entertained the crowd with upbeat dance and pop music at the corner of Marsh Street. The highlight of the evening was the official lighting of the Christmas tree, which took place at 19:30 local time. Sandy Sweeney, named Armidale’s 2025 Citizen of the Year, was invited by Mayor Sam Coupland to perform the honors. The crowd erupted in applause as the lights illuminated the tree, creating a magical scene.
In a social media post, Mayor Coupland expressed his gratitude to the community, stating, “Armidale, you’ve done it again, you’ve turned up in droves.” He also praised the popular Gingerbread Wonderland, located at the Old Courthouse, which was a hit among families.
