UPDATE: Four-year-old Stuart from Brimbank is diving into the Big Summer Read challenge starting today, December 1, 2023. This initiative, run by Public Libraries Victoria, encourages children aged 0-18 to read more during the holiday break. Participants log their completed books online for a chance to win exciting prizes.
Stuart’s mother, Donna Coutts, enrolled him in the program to prevent a summer reading slump. “The Big Summer Read is something to keep us engaged with reading and learning,” she emphasized. This program runs until January 31, 2024, offering families a structured way to foster reading habits.
“I love reading. A lot of books! All of the books!” Stuart exclaimed when asked about his favorite. His passion for reading has been nurtured by his mother since he was a toddler, as she shares her collection of childhood books with him. “He often reads books by himself in his room,” Ms. Coutts added, showcasing the positive impact of early reading encouragement.
Local families can still join the fun! Sign up online with Brimbank Libraries to participate in this engaging challenge. For more details, visit readbooks.com.au/bsr.
