UPDATE: Renowned artist Ned Brook is showcasing his groundbreaking exhibition, “In Plain Sight,” at the Bowery Gallery in St Albans, now open until October 18, 2023. This free exhibition offers a unique glimpse into Brook’s inner psyche through mesmerizing sculptures that transform complex emotions into flowing forms.
Brook, who has battled mental illness, utilizes art as a powerful medium to convey feelings often too difficult to express with words. “Some people meditate. I can’t meditate, so I use art as a tool for expressing stuff that’s difficult to explain,” Brook explained. His innovative process starts with drawing organic shapes, which he then digitizes and brings to life using 3D printing and metal manipulation, resulting in dynamic, curvilinear sculptures.
The artist emphasizes the influence of nature on his work, stating, “I spend a lot of time outdoors… It’s more curves rather than straight lines.” Brook’s background in cattle farming, volunteer firefighting, and arborist work deeply informs his artistic vision. He distances himself from urban inspirations, finding the natural world far more evocative than the “concrete and steel” of the city.
The exhibition is supported by the Brimbank Council and is open to the public from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday, and 9 AM to 12:30 PM on Saturdays. Each piece at “In Plain Sight” represents not just Brook’s current artistic direction, but also a step in his ongoing journey of self-expression.
This exhibition is not only a showcase of artistry but an emotional exploration that resonates deeply with viewers. Don’t miss the chance to experience Brook’s transformative work before it concludes on October 18.
