P-Platers’ Cars Impounded After Racing at 180 km/h on Monash Fwy

URGENT UPDATE: Two P-platers have had their vehicles impounded following alarming instances of high-speed driving on the Monash Freeway. Authorities report that a 20-year-old woman from Bonnie Brook was clocked at an astonishing 180 km/h, significantly exceeding the 100 km/h speed limit. This incident occurred in Glen Waverley early on October 19, 2023, when police intercepted her Hyundai i30 just before Jacksons Road in Mulgrave.

The woman allegedly justified her reckless speed by stating she “had to be somewhere.” As a result, her vehicle was impounded for 30 days at a hefty cost of $1,159. She is expected to face charges on summons for both speeding and dangerous driving.

In a separate incident, a 19-year-old P-plater from Berwick was detected speeding at 156 km/h on the Monash Freeway just hours earlier, on October 18, 2023. Police responded to reports of a Ford Falcon overtaking traffic dangerously at around 1:30 AM in Wheelers Hill. Officers quickly intercepted the vehicle after it reached the alarming speed.

This driver, who has held his probationary license for less than a year, had his license suspended immediately. His car was also impounded for 30 days, costing him $1,046.80. He too is expected to face charges on summons for various driving offenses.

These incidents highlight concerning trends among young drivers and the ongoing battle against reckless driving. Authorities are urging probationary drivers to adhere strictly to speed limits and prioritize safety on the roads.

As police continue their crackdown on speeding, community members are urged to report any reckless driving behaviors. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
