UPDATE: A driver has been airlifted to the hospital following a serious crash on a notorious stretch of Goolma Road, known for its tragic history. The incident occurred around 6 PM on Sunday, November 23, when a silver Mitsubishi Triton collided with a tree approximately 30 km west of Gulgong, NSW.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the accident. Paramedics from the NSW Ambulance Service treated the 38-year-old male driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, before transporting him to Orange Hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the crash is underway.
“We urge anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area at the time of the accident to contact Mudgee Police Station or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000,”
stated a representative from the NSW Police.
This incident comes less than a month after another tragic event on Goolma Road, where health worker Malcolm Bennett lost his life in a collision with a truck. His son, Beau Bennett, expressed no blame towards the truck driver, highlighting the road’s dangerous reputation.
Goolma Road has seen a spike in fatal accidents, including a devastating crash in September 2022 that resulted in two deaths and multiple injuries at the intersection of Goolma Road and Gorries Lane.
The community is urged to remain vigilant as investigations continue. As details emerge, local authorities are prioritizing road safety on this critical stretch.
