Goodyear, Arizona, is set to welcome a new dining option as Mission BBQ prepares to open its doors early in the first quarter of 2026. The restaurant, located at 15333 West McDowell Road, specializes in traditional American barbecue while paying tribute to the nation’s first responders and military personnel.
Founding Principles and Community Engagement
Mission BBQ was established by Bill Kraus and Steve “Newt” Newton on September 11, 2011, in Glen Burnie, Maryland. The choice of this date was intentional, aimed at commemorating the victims of the terrorist attacks on 9/11. According to franchise partner John Allington, “The founders love America,” which is evident in the restaurant’s mission to honor those who serve the country.
Beyond serving food, Mission BBQ engages with local communities by recognizing service members and first responders. The walls of each restaurant are adorned with photographs and memorabilia celebrating the sacrifices of these heroes. Additionally, the restaurant highlights local hero stories on its website and actively participates in community support. To date, the company, along with its customers, has contributed over $20 million to various charities, including Honor Flight and the USO.
Menu Offerings and Culinary Experience
The restaurant is known for its oak-smoked meats, which are prepared to ensure tenderness and rich flavor. Guests can indulge in a variety of options, including brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, turkey, and sausage. For those seeking a taste of everything, a meat sampler featuring two, three, or all available meats is also offered.
Mission BBQ prides itself on its made-from-scratch sides, which include fresh-cut fries, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and baked beans. Additionally, the restaurant will provide family meal options and catering services, making it a versatile choice for both casual dining and special occasions.
The upcoming opening of Mission BBQ in Goodyear is anticipated not only for its culinary offerings but also for its commitment to honoring those who serve in the community. As the restaurant prepares to launch, it aims to become a beloved gathering place for residents who appreciate great food and a heartfelt tribute to American heroes.
