Alessi Rose, the emerging indie-pop sensation, has identified Lorde as her primary source of inspiration, describing the New Zealand artist’s music as “poetry” during her formative years. The 22-year-old singer-songwriter is rapidly gaining recognition for her compelling lyricism, which has begun to capture the attention of the music industry.
In an exclusive interview with Bang Showbiz at the Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard on December 6, 2025, at the O2 Arena in London, Rose reflected on how the influence of artists like Kate Bush and Lorde has shaped her creative journey. “I think Lorde was the first person I kind of listened to, a pop star, where her music was poetry for me, and I think that is something really special,” she expressed.
Rose made her debut in 2023 with the single “say ur mine,” which garnered more than 40,000 views in its first week. Her recent project, the EP titled Voyeur, released in July, has been described as confessional pop, notable for its raw and unfiltered lyrics. The artist emphasizes the importance of channeling emotions and embracing vulnerability in her music.
“I think a lot of the reason that I have found the audience that I have is because I share everything that happens to me, mundane or otherwise,” Rose explained. She noted that many of her fans, primarily young women, resonate with her experiences. “Vulnerability is my way of working through things that bother me. If I didn’t write about things that made me a little bit vulnerable, I couldn’t work things out in my head.”
Rose’s authenticity stands out in a music industry often focused on polished images. She candidly stated, “I never had the luxury of being a polished straight-out-of-the-gates pop star, and I think that has been something that’s been liked.” This approach allows her audience to witness the genuine process behind her artistry.
“I wouldn’t want to be polished straight away; it’s my first time experiencing all of this,” she added. Without a musical background or family ties in the industry, Rose views her journey as a continuous learning experience. “I’m experiencing this for the first time, having a great time doing it, and getting better and better as the day goes on. I think that’s encouraging to anyone wanting to be in music or any creative field.”
Her reflections highlight a broader message for aspiring musicians: the value of authenticity and the importance of personal growth. “If you’re not improving, you’re just stagnant,” she asserted. “It’s important to be yourself; it’s not a negative to not be perfect straight away.”
As Alessi Rose continues to carve her path in the music world, her dedication to genuine expression and her acknowledgment of influential figures like Lorde signal a promising future in the industry.
