A final inquest into the death of former One Direction member Liam Payne has been postponed until 2026 as authorities seek additional evidence. During a brief pre-inquest review on November 6, 2025, Senior Coroner Crispin Butler announced that “full reports and eyewitness statements” are still being gathered, particularly from ongoing investigations in Argentina regarding the circumstances surrounding Payne’s untimely demise.
Payne tragically died at the age of 31 after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony at the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16, 2024. Following his death, an autopsy revealed that he suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including both “internal and external hemorrhage.” The coroner underscored the importance of obtaining comprehensive documentation, including details about the medical cause of death, along with the specifics of when, where, and how the incident occurred.
The inquest was adjourned to facilitate the translation of initial autopsy and police reports from Argentina, with cooperation from Payne’s family. The next pre-inquest review is scheduled for May 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
In February, an Argentinian court dismissed charges of criminal negligence against three of the five individuals initially charged in connection with Payne’s death. This development has added complexity to the ongoing investigation.
Payne’s sisters, Nicola Payne and Ruth Gibbins, publicly mourned their brother on the first anniversary of his passing. Gibbins shared an emotional tribute on social media, expressing her profound grief. She stated, “I underestimated grief, woah, did I underestimate it. I am paralyzed by it daily.” Gibbins reflected on the intensity of her loss, emphasizing the void left in her life by her brother’s absence.
She also recounted recurring nightmares about his final moments, revealing her struggle to find closure: “My brain is locked on your last minutes on this earth, the unaccounted minutes, the minutes I will never have the answers to, the minutes that changed everything.”
As the inquest progresses, the family and the public continue to seek clarity regarding the circumstances surrounding Liam Payne‘s tragic death, hoping for answers that will shed light on his final moments.
