New Emoji Unveiled: Bigfoot, Orca, and More Arriving in iOS 26

The Unicode Consortium has announced a fresh selection of emojis, including an image of Bigfoot and an orca, set to debut in iOS 26. This announcement coincides with World Emoji Day and highlights the ongoing evolution of digital communication. The new emojis are expected to be formally introduced in September 2025, with their availability on devices following soon after.

Each year, the Unicode Consortium reviews proposals for new emojis, a process that includes several evaluation stages before final approval. This year, the Consortium has confirmed eight new emojis will be part of the upcoming update, although historically, over a hundred new emojis are added annually. The limited initial announcement suggests that more designs may be revealed as the September deadline approaches.

Among the newly confirmed emojis is an apple core, which adds a playful touch to the existing fruit icons. The process of emoji approval involves careful consideration of cultural relevance, usability, and design. This meticulous approach ensures that the emojis resonate with a global audience and reflect current trends and interests.

As digital communication continues to evolve, the introduction of these new emojis will provide users with even more ways to express themselves. The Unicode Consortium aims to enhance diversity and representation across its emoji offerings, reflecting the varied experiences of people worldwide.

The unveiling of these emojis is not just about fun; it also underscores the importance of visual communication in an increasingly digital world. Emojis have become a language of their own, bridging gaps in communication and adding emotional depth to text-based conversations.

As the release date approaches, users eagerly await further announcements from the Unicode Consortium. With the addition of icons like Bigfoot and orca, the upcoming emoji update promises to bring a fresh wave of creativity to online interactions.
